Shaft Alignment

On-Site Laser Alignment Services:
CPM uses the “ULTRA” and “TOUCH” wireless laser shaft alignment systems by Prüftechnik. CPM is equipped to align all types of horizontal and vertical rotating machinery, including:

  • Pumps, fans, and cooling towers
  • Motors and gearboxes
  • Spacer and cardan shafts*
  • Diesel engines, reduction gears, and generators

*Contact CPM regarding cardan offsets greater than 15 inches.

Real-Time Alignment Monitoring:
Shaft alignments are typically performed “cold,” with both components at ambient temperature. After startup, thermal expansion, load, wear, pipe strain, and other variables can cause machines across a coupling to shift independently of each other, in both the vertical and horizontal directions. Shaft alignment tolerances achieved during cold alignment can be exceeded during operation, resulting in high vibration, premature coupling failures, and shortened life of the machinery. In high-temp/high-load applications, particularly at higher shaft speeds, dynamic measurement may be necessary to ensure long-term reliability.

CPM is equipped to measure alignment dynamically during startup or shutdown. As positional changes are continuously monitored, horizontal and vertical shaft alignment and feet correction values are trended in real time. The relative positional changes from off-line to steady-state operation (or vice versa) are used to generate accurate off-line shaft alignment targets, resulting in precision operational alignment and increased reliability.
